FAQ

Here are some answers to commonly asked questions about our company and our signs. If you still have questions, please contact us.

How many years have you been in business?

Our parent company, Indiana Stamp, was founded in 1947, and we’ve been making signs almost from the beginning (in addition to stamps). We added digital graphics to our product offerings 5 years ago, and we bought a local exterior sign company in 2014.

Help! I don’t understand the sign terminology you are using!

Never fear! Visit our glossary, which will clear things up for you! If it doesn’t, feel free to give us a call, or email sales@indianasignworks.com. We are your sign experts, here to help you out!

How can I get a quote?

Easy! Email sales@indianasignworks.com, or call us at 260-407-4165. Any of our very friendly and knowledgeable customer service representatives or sales executives would be happy to speak with you. If necessary, we can schedule an on-site consultation to provide you with the most accurate quote possible.

How much will my sign cost?

Sign pricing is based on many independent factors, such as size, material, method of fabrication and installation. Each sign is custom-produced and quoted on an individual basis. We will not ever cut corners on material or labor, and we do not compete on price. We believe in providing customers with the highest quality sign at a fair price, and we stand by our product.

I’ve gotten quotes from different sign companies, and there are big differences between them, both in terms of what they say I need and the cost. Why?

Sign making is as much of an art as a science. With complex jobs, so much depends on the sign company taking the time to gather all the facts and to listen intently to what the customer really needs and/or wants. On every job, we try to do just that. Beware of false economies. When sign shopping, you get what you pay for. What you are paying for when you buy one of our signs is our guarantee that we will not cut corners on materials or labor. We strive to provide the highest quality product, at a fair price, and we will stand by our work, always.

What products and services does Indiana Signworks offer?

Indiana Signworks is a full-service sign company. We design, fabricate and install any type of sign. We can also take care of any permitting necessary for exterior signage. As a matter of fact, our vertically-integrated company can manufacture just about any type of sign in-house. We are also the company to call for sign maintenance and repair, including replacing burnt-out bulbs or broken sign faces.

Should I convert my sign to LED lights?

We are happy to consult with customers about the benefits and drawbacks of retrofitting their signs from fluorescent or incandescent to LED bulbs. In the long-run, this isthe most energy- and cost-efficient choice, but it does require an upfront investment. LED bulbs generally last longer, are less expensive to replace, are more environmentally friendly and use less energy than traditional lighting methods, so most of the time, we recommend making the investment. But there are some cases where it might not be worth the cost.

What is the difference between a partial vehicle wrap, a full-vehicle wrap and vehicle graphics?

A full-vehicle wrap covers every area of exposed paint on a vehicle. A partial-wrap covers just some portion of the vehicle, and vehicle graphics can be a cost-effective alternative to the first two, more expensive wrap options. If designed and applied creatively, graphics can be just as effective and eye catching at a fraction of the cost.

Will Indiana Signworks work with my ad agency/design firm/ building contractor?

We can work directly with our customer, or with their ad agency/design firm/building contractor. We work diligently at communication to ensure all parties are kept in the loop. Indiana Signworks has established working relationships with many local agencies, firms and contractors. We can come in at any stage in the process. But often we find in large jobs that it is very helpful to be brought in early in the design process, so we can work with your team to ensure that products and materials fit the client’s (and eventual user’s) needs.

How do you determine the best sign for my needs?

We take a consultative approach to selling signs. Our experienced and friendly sales staff are happy to make on-site consultations at no additional cost to our customers. We will take the time to listen to your wants and needs. For large signs or more complicated projects, we may need to meet several times. We typically then come back to the shop, talk about the job as a team, pulling together the sign, design and fabrication/installation crews to find the best solution. We then present our opinions to you, showing you concept sketches and proofs. We’ll also talk about pricing, so there are no surprises along the way.

Do we need to supply you with artwork for our signs?

You certainly can! We can provide you with our artwork requirements to ensure that your sign’s image is the highest quality possible! We do have an in-house design team, so if you don’t have anything more than a sketch on a napkin don’t worry! We can help out there, too. We charge industry rates for art design time, pro-rated by the hour.

Do you make business cards, brochures and flyers?

No, we do not offer image setting or press services. But we can make just about everything else for you—from signs (of course) to name badges, promotional materials and logo wear!

You require vector art. What is the difference between vector and bitmap artwork?

Graphic files are typically vector or bitmap. We can sometimes use bitmap art, but cannot guarantee it, and there may be art fees that apply if we need to work on the file. Using vector art, which is created to be scalable, is one step to avoiding extra art fees. Vector images can be output at the highest quality in any scale because they are made of lines and panels rather than pixels or dots. Vector images are resolution independent. Common vector formats are eps, ai and pdf. These formats are available in most graphics programs.

A bitmap, or raster, image is made of small, discreet bits of visual information called pixels. Common bitmap-based formats are jpeg, jpg, gif, tiff, png, pict and bmp. The number of pixels in one square inch of an image is called the dpi (dots per inch) and is known as the resolution of the image. Bitmaps lose quality when they are re-sized from their original size and must be created with consideration for their output use. Bitmap images should be built at 300 dpi, if they are built at the actual finished size. You can build the bitmap files at a smaller proportional size than the final usage size, but you must increase the resolution accordingly. These files tend to get too large to use easily for large graphic output.

What are your artwork requirements?

Because we make so many types of products and many of them have their own artwork specifications, it would be very hard to list them all here. We suggest that you call us at 877-227-7981 or email us at sales@indianasignworks.com with your specific artwork questions.

Can I upload artwork to your site directly?

Yes, please go to https://indianasignworks.com/send-a-file/ and follow the instructions on the page.

Who is responsible for proofing my artwork?

We hope to create strong partnerships with our customers. We make every effort to provide proofs that have been reviewed thoroughly. At the end of the day, the final responsibility rests with our customers to sign off on proofs that look EXACTLY the way they want their sign to look. Should an error occur, we will stand by our product and work with our customer to come up with a fair solution.

If I have a question about my sign project, who should I call?

We try to keep communication simple. If you are unsure of who to call, you can simply call our main telephone number and speak with the customer representative who answers the phone at 260-407-4065 or toll free at 877-227-7981. This representative will connect you to the correct person.

Is it important to have full color graphics on a sign?

Full color graphics can be eye-catching. This is one job of a sign. But, in some circumstances, the graphics can be confusing to the eye, adding to the visual clutter instead of enhancing the image. Our team at Indiana Signworks believes every sign requires individual consideration.

Aren’t all sign companies the same?

Well, we’d like to think not. In our experience, all of us have an area of expertise. Some of us are really good at vehicle wraps. Some companies focus primarily on providing inexpensive banners, quickly. Our company is one of the largest in the area, and certainly one of the only vertically-integrated companies around. That means that we can fabricate almost any kind of sign in-house. We are truly a turnstone solution for a company needing everything from personal branding and promotional items like logowear, name badges and awards to interior and exterior signs. Even so, we like to think that our true strongpoint is customer service and communication. We understand that, even though we make signs every day, our customers may not be familiar with the process. We strive to go the extra mile to make sure lines of communication are always open.
